WHANANAKI

Just 20 minutes from State Highway 1 and located on the pristine Tutukaka Coast, Whananaki is one of the most beautiful places in the world!

Nestled beside a tidal estuary which splits the district in two - North and South - Whananaki is New Zealand’s best kept summer secret.

Whananaki Holiday Park is located on the banks of the estuary on the Northside, just metres from the famous Whananaki footbridge which joins North with South.  At 395 metres, it is the Southern Hemisphere’s longest.

From the camp you can walk the bridge to Ocean Beach - one of our most beautiful - and where you’ll often find you’re the only person on it.

Three boat ramps are less than 1km away and the estuary offers great swimming, skiing, fishing, jetskiing and kayaking.  There are good fishing spots both around the estuary and three minutes up the coast at our surf beaches.

If surfing is your thing, Whananaki is only a few km away from the Tutakaka Coast’s best surf beaches - Sandy Bay (to the south) and Moureeses Bay (to the north).  Both, as well as the Whananaki Bar at the estuary’s mouth, can be counted on for good surfing.

Whananaki also has fantastic diving

The waters are truly unspoilt.  Crays... kina, you’ll always get a feed.

Whananaki is also where many set out for a trip to the Poor Knights Islands, only 22km off the coast and one of the world’s most beautiful diving locations.

We have lots of trail walks, including the Whananaki-Sandy Bay Coastal Walkway (2hrs) and Captaine Bougainville Memorial (1hr), both part of the 3,000km Te Araroa Trail which starts in Cape Reinga and finishes in Bluff.

We are also located on the Cycling "Heart of the Octopus Trail" NZ and are a Cycle Hub holiday park.

Fishing is plentiful around Whananaki.  Whether you're keen on fishing off the rocks, beach, local wharf or bridge itself - there's something for everyone.  In a boat you'll experience the most beautiful bays and islands on the East Coast and  the open ocean is only a few minutes boat ride away.  Whananaki Holiday Park is just 400m from a boat ramp.

The estuary offers plenty of places to explore in a kayak, which we hire out at Whananaki Holiday Park.  For those a little more adventurous and experienced, in the right conditions head up the coast to our magnificent beaches at Moureeses Bay, Rockell Shores and further north at Mimiwhangata, or paddle around the headland to Whananaki South beach which is simply paradise.

He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

At the heart of Whananaki is its people - friendly, helpful and wanting to make sure you have the best holiday in paradise!

The Whananaki General Store, hall, school, library and bridge are all a 1-minute walk away meaning you’ll be staying right in the middle of where all the action is.. well, as much action as Whananaki has!
